2 Feb 2010 Global Sustainability Standard (ISO 20121)

We have been keeping you all informed of Rapport’s efforts to work towards to the British Government events sustainability standard BS8901. Well it seems we have definitely paved the way as there are now positive stirrings towards ensuring all events are standardized for their waste and environmental impact, not only in the UK, but across the globe.

Rapport has always been a great advocator of steering perception of the events industry away from its ‘fluffy’ image and more towards the hard-working and invaluable industry that it is, one that is crucial to business revenue, employee motivation and effective communication, so we are right behind this new incentive.

Sustainability can no longer be an event management company’s USP, it should be a global must-have which will eventually, not only make the industry responsible for the way events are managed, but also help to display to the world that the events industry is one which is serious about environmental issues, aiding the change in perception we are all working so hard to achieve.

The first meeting has already taken place to get moving on the International Standards Organisation’s (ISO) global standard (catchily names ISO20121!), with 30 countries already involved. It is expected to be finalized in time for the London Olympics on 2012.
