The Christmas Cracker

Welcome to the Rapport blog “Christmas Special”! This week marked a momentous occasion when Paul, our designer celebrated his 1st year anniversary of ruling over ‘design corner’ with an iron fist – happy anniversary Paul!

In other Rapport news we were treated to a glamorous morning of studios and megapixels when our new corporate photos were taken. With the majority of the office admitting to extreme camera-phobia it was never going to be an easy job but all turned out well in the end, so look out for the shots adorning our PR for the foreseeable future.

Rapport Team 2008

Not wanting to miss out on the Christmas cheer we braved holding our Christmas night out last week on “mad” Friday (as apparently the last Friday before Christmas is affectionately known). Although I have heard variations from around the country including “black-eye” Friday. A trip to Greek restaurant “Dimitris” was followed by an entertaining evening at the Comedy Store, and not a black eye in sight!

Interestingly it was discovered this week that the secret to tackling the ever-growing epidemic of childhood obesity could be hidden within a traditional English Christmas film. Nutritionists have found that the workhouse diet supplied to the orphan children of the workhouse in Oliver Twist was actually extremely healthy and well-balanced and if followed today could seriously reduce obesity in children. Oliver’s diet, which consisted of red meats, cheese, potatoes and home-baked bread seems to prove that in fact Oliver could not have been hungry when he asked for more, but simply greedy!

No ‘Christmas special’ would be complete without a “best of” so I have looked back over the blogs and picked out my favourite story or news item. I enjoy writing the blog as, not only does it allow me to be able to surf the internet in work time while “researching”, but it also provides me a sort of weekly diary of what I got up too. So for me meeting the musical giant Mark Ronson was definitely a personal highlight (July 2008).

However it also allows me to keep abreast of current affairs and look into any subject I choose to write about that week, so my favouite thing I found out was definitely the mystery of the “great” British summer and I will never get my hopes up for a repeat of the summer of ‘76 again (August 2008)!

Happy Christmas everyone – see you all in 2009!

Royally Impressed

Although traditionally held on the fourth Thursday in November, we knew that our friends, family and suppliers wouldn’t be able to have half as much fun on a school night, so we held our Rapport Thanksgiving party last Friday instead. I have to start by thanking everyone who came, a wonderful time was had by all (except maybe the staff at Drip Coffee House!). It’s always nice to see people out of a work capacity and definitely helps build rapport between us and everyone who we work with to make our events the resounding successes they are!

We enjoyed watching the queen’s speech from the office on Wednesday, despite the fact that Her Majesty discussed the dire economic situation we face while sporting her bejeweled crown. For me the Royal Family represent the tradition and heritage which holds the nation together. Without Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London our tourism industry would be at a virtual standstill! The queen arrived to trumpets, horses and guardsmen dressed in white knee socks and delivered her speech from her throne with the King sat beside her, just the sort of thing that is needed to spice up a boring day in the House of Lords and it certainly brought a smile to our faces.

The Queen's Speech

Well done to Abi who this week delivered a speech to an impressed audience at the Insider magazine’s “42 under 42” event in Liverpool on Wednesday, for more info please look to our news page.

This week I have been putting together the copy for our bi-annual newsletter which you can register to receive via our home page (look out for it as the final blog of 2008 will be included) and as well as allowing me a nostalgic look through all the news stories and blogs, it has been interesting to see just how much we have done this year and the variety of events and locations, roll on 2009…
